![]() One of the objectives of our Agricultural Program has been to enhance and improve the crop production of the local farmers. Through either hands-on training courses from an expert agronomist, to field trips to see larger operations and the opportunity to learn better techniques, to focused seminars, our students have been making great strides; we have been thrilled to watch the difference this program is making in their lives. Another objective of this program is to locate and secure other markets for the farmers of Lavanneau whose only access is the open market. In line with that goal, Praxis is launching a community-based approach to growing tomatoes. After having a two-month market test performed in collaboration with a few large Supermarkets in Port au Prince, our product is being very well received by customers. As a result, Praxis will help local farmers turn their training into personal revenue. We will provide students from our program with seedlings and additional training to promote the success of their gardens. Praxis will use its network of Supermarket and present our farmers’ harvest as a viable alternative to imported produce. This initiative meets local demand for local product grown by local farmers. The supermarkets remain enthusiastic about our farmers’ produce. |
